A most wanted burglar escaped an armed chase and is still on the loose after being spotted in Chiswick last week, police admitted today (Friday).
Witnesses became alarmed when they saw four armed police officers and a helicopter at Hogarth roundabout in Chiswick at about midday on Wednesday (November 28).
A Hounslow Police spokesperson said officers were sent out with guns after he was spotted in the area.
A helicopter was also dispatched when the suspect, who remains unnamed, went to ground in residents' gardens. The chopper is fitted with a heat seeking thermal imaging device used to hunt down culprits hiding in bushes or garden sheds.
"The suspect is known to police for serious offences. Unfortunately we did not get him," the police source said today (Friday November 30).
"We are going to try to get him over the weekend. It's a case of us going out there and finding him. Hopefully we may get him over the weekend, but things are not always that easy. He knows we are looking for him."
The man is wanted by police for burglaries in the Chiswick area.
