The new Brentford FC manager and England legend Terry Butcher has thrown his support behind the club's new initiative.

Brentford's Community Sports Trust (CST) kicked off a project for disabled youngsters last week with the help of funding from the Football Foundation.

Terry Butcher was moved by what he saw: "It's fantastic to see a club who are geared towards the community so much. It's great that everyone who wants to play football has the chance to play because of schemes like these.

"In the past I have helped with the Special Olympics and I'm amazed to see such similar standards on a local scale. It is always great to see people enjoying their football. The people who volunteer and organise these projects are heroes, as are the children taking part."

The Community Sports Trust has long been at the heart of bringing sport and social activities to disabled children in the Brentford and Chiswick area, children who are usually restricted in their day to day lives, helping them to develop their sports skills as well as new friendships.

The launch of the new project was helped by a substantial grant which the trust received from the Football Foundation, the UK's largest sports charity which aims to develop local programmes and grass roots facilities.

Peter Shears, CST disability officer and co-ordinator of the project launch said: "The trust has grown over the last four or five years, and this is largely down to funding from organisations like the Football Foundation.

"The funding is essential for us to develop and make sure every child will have the opportunity to participate."
