Victor Chandler: Murray and Wozniacki won't be Wimbledon winners

Wimbledon begins on Monday and we are so convinced that neither Andy Murray (6/1) or Caroline Wozniacki will win their respective singles titles that we will refund losing bets on the outright men’s tournament if the Scot, impressive winner of Queen’s, follows up at SW 19 or if the World Number 1 Wozniacki breaks her Grand Slam duck. Note this offer last until the beginning of the tournament on Monday.

Rafael Nadal at 2/1 just shades Roger Federer at 9/4 with Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic at 3s in the betting and it is hard to see past the big three.

Federer showed in Paris he is no back number and back on grass he can equal the record of Pete Sampras with a seventh Wimbledon title. The stats say he lost in straight sets to Nadal in Roland Garros but Federer was a match for the King Of Clay for the first couple of sets in Paris and he can prevent the Spaniard winning a third title at SW19 in the last four years.

Until his loss to Federer in the French semi Djokovic had won all 43 matches in 2011 and would have come into Wimbledon as world number 1 had he beat the Swiss ace. That said he has never looked really at home on grass (never won a singles tournament on the surface) and he is readily overlooked. The Williams’ sisters have nine Wimbledon titles to their name and Serena heads the market at 4/1 despite the fact that she hasn’t played since last summer as a result of injury and serious health problems as a result of several blood clots in her lungs. She is the outstanding grass court player of her generation but can she return at or very near her best from a near 12-month break?

It is seven years since Maria Sharapova burst onto the scene winning Wimbledon but she can follow up her 2004 success with victory over the next fortnight. She, too, has had her injuries but there was much to like about her performance on the French clay and make no mistake Sharapova is no Kournikova. There is substance and fight behind her model looks and in a wide open event she can gain a second title and reward her supporters at 9/2.

England were outplayed and perhaps fortunate to get a draw against Spain in their opening U-21 fixture on Sunday and meet the Czech Republic in their final group game tomorrow evening. The Czechs beat Ukraine 2-1 in their opener but if the Young Lions are to make the final four they must take care of a workmanlike but limited Czech team.
