Westside LTC won a tense shoot-out decider to clinch a 7-6 victory over Esporta Brighton in the AEGON National Tennis League on Sunday while their ladies beat the Cumberland Club 8-4, writes Mike Sinclair.
Both sides bounced back from defeats the previous week to secure their third vicories from four outings this season in the South East South Divison - part of the second tier of the country's top inter-club competition.
Marek Karas and Richard Mayers took the doubles 10-8 in a nailbiting shoot-out to clinch victory for Wimbledon-based Westside as the match went to the wire after the singles, doubles and singles deciders were all shared.
Team captain Gary Thomson, playing on painkillers after having a dislocated shoulder put back at courtside during a match in Glasgow 48 hours earlier, won his singles shoot-out 12-10, beating Keelan Oakley for the second time in the match.
Earlier the four singles had been shared, with Thomson and Mayers winning for Westside and the two doubles also finished level with the pairing of Thomson and James Silvester successful for the home club.
Former national junior winner Laura Peterzan, club champion Olivia Fery and head coach Alison Taylor won their singles for Westside ladies with Fery and Alexandra Joy taking their doubles to move the team up to second place in the table.
