Suttons Men's National team kicked off the 2011 campaign with a resounding 5-1 away win at the Globe Tennis Club in Hampstead.
Josh Goodhall, already the winner of 3 Challenger events this year beat Ollie Kalitiz, an ex Sutton player 6-1 6-1, Robbie Green won a titanic battle 7-6, 6-7,6-4 against Bartosz Terczynsski.
After his singles match, Robbie asked Steve Tiddy if he had to play doubles. Steve informed him that it was either him or me.
Robbie despite being unable to move said he would play. Nick Lester has returned to the Club and again showed himself to be a genuine competitior by winning 6-3, 6-0 against Gaddo Guidotti and Oliver Hudson making his debut for Sutton won 6-2 6-2 against a difficult opponent Damien Nzekwu.
Josh Goodhall & Nick Lester were comprehensive winners over in the dubs while Robbie Green & Oliver Hudson were squeezed out 10-8 in the Doubles Tie Break shooter.
A great start in what will be a very difficult group. Our next match is versus Chandos on Sunday 17th April starting at Midday at the Club.
Sutton Men's Regional team started their campaign by beating V Tennis also by the score of 5 rubbers to 1.
This represented a a very good victory for Sutton as we lost to V Tennis in last years season.
Huge credit goes to Aidan Graveson who beat Alexandre Spoerri 6-3 6-1, Nathan Carter who has overcome a serious knee injury and returned to action with Sutton lost out 1-6, 4-6 to Gregory Guillon, Jonathon Cornish - another glorious recruit from the Ben Haran production line at Reeds School won a compelling match 7-6, 6-3 and Sam Butler a pedigree workhorse at No 4 won 6-2 6-0. Both doubles matches were won.
The next regional match is on Sunday 17th April v Esporta Brighton starting at Midday.
Sutton's County team played Sanderstead 1 on Sunday and won convincigly 6-0. Spearheaded by Gary Davies, he beat Ian Guest 6-1 6-4, Garth Furmidge was in 2nd gear as he ran through 6-1 6-0 against Phil Collins, Manan Shankor made his debut for the Club in singles and overcame Tom Leadbitter 6-4 6-3 and the rock Wayne Darroch opened his account with a 6-3 6-0 victory.
Both doubles matches were won. Next match v Telford on the 17th April at ST&SC starting at 9.30am.
ST&SC U/16 boys represented by Daniel True & Dominic Gould Fleming recored a convincing 3-0 victory over Godalming. Daniel won his singles 7-5 6-0 and Dominic won his singles match 6-1 6-2. Teaming up they won their doubes 6-1 6-2. Guys a great start - well done.
ST&SC U/14 boys were represented by Rory Duthie and Oliver Darroch and lost to Oxshott by 3-0. Rory lost out to Alex Stephen and Oliver lost to Chris Montgomery. They teamed up for the doubles and were edged out. Guys a huge effort and well done for being out there and trying.
