French flies flag for the vets

Worcester Park-based Christine French has been named as British Tennis Veteran of the Year.

The reigning European Women’s 50 champion was a world championships semi-finallist and a key member of the British team that won the Maria Esther Bueno Cup at the ITF World Team Championships.

Also ranked number one in the ITF world rankings, French was presented with her award at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton by LTA president Derek Howarth.

“It has been a great year all round for the vets side of the game,” she said.

“I would like to thank my husband who has been a real inspiration for me.

“He has been injured this year and so he has really helped me.

“I am really happy to be flying the flag for Vets tennis – it has been tremendous.”
