Rosslyn Park head coach Alex Codling is not expecting an easy ride this weekend at bottom club Macclesfield, after a hard-fought 28-15 derby win over Richmond last weekend.

Sam Shires, Hugo Ellis and Mark Ireland scored the tries against Richmond that kept Park second in the National League One table.

However, the absence of a fourth try and a bonus point saw them slip a point compared with their main rivals, Ealing and Fylde.

With one first choice lock, Richard Boyle, already injured, Codling will be hoping that the knock that saw James Inglis leave the field is not too serious.

Macclesfield are the only club yet to record a competition point this season, however, the Cheshire side have players returning from injury and have made shrewd loan signings, so Codling is taking their challenge seriously.

He said: "It will be a big test. Despite their league position, Macclesfield were leading at half time against Coventry in their last home game and only just lost in the end, so we will certainly not underestimate the challenge that awaits us.

"Against Richmond, I thought the boys put in a big shift and deserved the win.

“After a tough first 40 minutes into the wind, we kicked on in the second half.

“It was great to see so many people at the Rock and to be eight wins from the first nine games is an excellent effort and there is a good feel about the group and around the club at the moment.

“Moving forward we just need to improve our accuracy at key times, so that we can convert pressure into points.

Park are hoping for another bumper gate for their next home match, another local derby this time against Esher, which will be on a Friday night on November 14.
