Rosslyn Park head coach Alex Codling is preparing his troops for a titanic derby this weekend when Richmond visit the Rock.

Park’s 19-17 win at Cinderford last weekend lifted them second in National League One, three points below unbeaten leaders, Ealing.

Richmond, weekend winners over Blackheath (36-27) are fourth.

Codling said: “Our defence will be severely tested by our neighbours Richmond.

"They, like ourselves, have had an excellent start to the season and this should make for a cracking derby."

He added: “The support at the Rock has been fantastic so far this season and that along with the approval of the ground improvements means there is a real buzz around the club.

"It would be great for our supporters to turn out in big numbers again and get behind the boys”.

Tom Whelan was the man of the moment at Cinderford bagging all the points via a try, four penalties and a conversion.

Codling said: “Any win away from home is pleasing and hard earned.

“Despite playing into a strong wind in the first half we dominated possession and territory but didn't finish off some clear opportunities which was frustrating.

“Fair play to Cinderford they worked tirelessly for the full 80 minutes but in the end we got the win we deserved.

“I was very pleased with the step up in intensity in defence with their only try coming from a kick through from a turnover in their 22”.

Kick-off this weekend is at 3pm.
