Rosslyn Park’s 44-0 win at Worthing, with the four-try bonus point, sees them remain seven points behind the leaders, Doncaster, who have yet to visit Roehampton.

This coming Saturday’s opponents, Fylde, are now the only other team with a realistic chance of catching the leaders after their 33-7 win over Esher - they are currently eight points behind Park.

The game at Worthing was the first time in more than 170 National One matches this season that a home side has been prevented from scoring.

Skipper Hugo Ellis scored three of Park’s six tries.

No wonder head coach Alex Codling was delighted: “'I was chuffed with the performance. To score 44 points on the road against a very good Worthing side was a great way to bounce back."

After paying tribute to the Worthing ground staff whose hard work allowed the match to go ahead, Codling referred back to the previous week’s disappointing performance against Blackheath.

He said: “It is after adversity that you discover the real desire and drive behind people. The boys showed in spades what it means to play together and for the club.

“This Saturday we face the most attacking team in the league in what should be a great advert for National One.

"We have also showed some real attacking intent in recent weeks scoring some great tries in the process so it would be great to see as many supporters down at the Rock getting behind the boys.

"They certainly deserve it.”

Earlier this season Fylde defeated Park 26-10 at Woodlands and the match hinged on a turnover, when Park looked likely to take the lead.

Instead an interception saw Fylde go the length of the field to score.

After that, in the last few minutes, they really put Park to the sword and there is no doubt that Park will be thirsting for revenge.

With former England supremo Brian Ashton back on their coaching staff, Fylde’s open attacking rugby has seen them garner 15 four-try bonus points so far this season.

Park were pleased last Saturday to welcome back from injury back-row man Sam Shires.
