Away wins will be key come Richmond's day of reckoning

Director of rugby Steve Hill believes performances like Richmond’s 18-13 win at Dings Crusaders on Saturday could be all important come the day of reckoning at the end of the season.

Fly half Tom Platt was the star as he kicked six penalties and played in three different positions to help his side maintain its position at the top of National Division Two South.

Hill’s men, who host Henley Hawks on Saturday, have only lost once this season and had to overcome the loss to injury of full back Tom Chesters and centre Sandy Reid at the weekend.

“Dings have put in two strong performances in the last two weeks against two of the leagues top sides,” he said.

“I was really pleased with the discipline and effort shown by our whole team.

“Losing two backs to injury was certainly disruptive, but we ultimately showed what a good squad we possess.

“Tom Platt played in three positions during the match yet still nudged over six from six, including two from our half. At the end of the season, where we end up will depend on how we have done on these difficult away trips.”
