Director of Rugby Steve Hill has laid down the gauntlet to his all conquering Richmond side, by telling his players to do it again – and again, wrtes Tom Barnes.
Hill, whose side sit top of the National South League Two, hailed his side’s 66-7 win at fellow promotion chasers Redruth as the best performance of the season.
The victory sent shock waves throughout the division as Richmond make their more plausible case for a march towards National League One.
“This was by some way our best performance of the season. We scored some cracking tries with Tom Chesters and Will Browne a constant threat,” he said.
“Our pack totally dominated in the tight. For me the quality and tenaciousness of our defence was exceptional.
“The challenge is now to repeat this on a weekly basis.”
Fourth placed Redruth were expected to give Hill’s side their sternest test of the new season but a scintillating Richmond had far too much class for the Cornish outfit and dominated throughout.
Two tries apiece from the excellent Chris Davies – and Will Browne and a polished kicking display from Luke Cousins – contributed to the demolition of their hosts.
Tries from Gregory, Chesters, Abbott, Phipps, Wehbe and Parkinson added to the misery as the Athletic Ground side ran out comprehensive 66-7 victors.
Richmond will be expecting to extend their good run of form at bottom-side Westcombe Park this Saturday.
