Richmond moved up to take a share of top spot in National Division One on Saturday, but director of rugby Steve Hill reminded his men there is room for improvement.

Hills’ men – inspired by number eight Chris Davies – thrashed struggling Wharfedale 55-13 to move level on points with league leaders Hartpury College.

Despite running in eight tries – through James Allcock, Davies, Callum Grant, captain Will Warden, Rory Damant (two), Sam Stuart and Adam Gadsby – the Athletic Ground chief wanted more and warned they needed to be better at Loughborough Students tomorrow.

“We saw the very good and the not so good of this Richmond squad,” he said.

“The very good was in our ability to bounce back from conceding two tries, to re-take the lead, and then in the whole of the second half not concede a point.

“The not so good was conceding those tries and then failing to finish off chances in the last 15 minutes when we created terrific momentum.

“We will need to be considerably more clinical at Loughborough. The pleasing thing is the players already know this."
