Richmond director of rugby Steve Hill has warned his players they remain mired in a relegation battle, despite a third straight win on Saturday.

Richmond – through tries from Will Brown and Rob Kirby – beat Old Albanians 17-8 to go with recent wins over Henley and Blaydon, but they are still only nine points clear of the National League One drop zone.

“I think the league picture is going to be very distorted because Cinderford have missed four games now [due to postponements],” he said.

“We have got two very tough games, away at Coventry and Cinderford, so that will have a massive effect.

“Our performance on Saturday was very pleasing overall, but we are certainly not safe.”

Richmond go to Coventry tomorrow with memories of an agonising 32-31 defeat in September still fresh.

“For the first half of the season Coventry were in the top four and they are not far off now,” added Hill.

“I don’t think it is revenge. The key thing is to keep a run going, to keep us out of the relegation area.”
