Fly half Rob Kirby stole the show as Richmond ended a five-match losing run with a 25-18 win at old rivals Blackheath.
Kirby’s 20-point haul – six penalties and a conversion – added to winger Will Browne’s try to secure the win, much to director of rugby Steve Hill’s relief.
‘This is a huge result for us," he said.
"To come to Blackheath with our confidence low and to grind out a win against tough opposition will hugely increase the belief the team has in itself.
"Rob Kirby’s kicking was outstanding today and he also showed an increasing maturity as a fly half.
"The pack delivered good quality ball which our backs used intelligently.
"This performance must now be the standard we are able to produce each week."
Richmond host Worthing on Saturday, while London Division Two South West Teddington return to action with a trip to Tottonians.
