Yarde confirms Quins switch as England take Care
Director of rugby Conor O’Shea is determined to help Marland Yarde realise his full potential at Harlequins.
England winger Yarde has confirmed he will be at the Stoop next season having signed a lucrative two-year deal to switch from London Irish.
Yarde’s arrival will give Quins enviable resources in the backs department, much to the delight of O’Shea.
“Marland is young, ambitious, has world class potential and his 'X-Factor' is with ball in hand,” he said.
“We are absolutely determined that we will help him realise his ambitions and look forward to him joining the squad in the summer.”
Yarde added: “I will always have fond memories of London Irish and can only thank the club for what they have done for me as a player to date and the opportunity they have given me.
“I am excited to move on to the next stage of my career with Harlequins and hope to continue to develop and improve as a player.”
The former Premiership champions are also reported to have swooped to sign Waikato Chiefs’ two-time Super Rugby winning winger Asaeli Tikoirotuma, 27, on a two-year deal.
Meanwhile, Harlequins scrum half Danny Care will start England’s Six Nations opener against France.
The 27-year-old, surplus to requirements for the autumn internationals, has been in fine form for Quins this term and is joined in the starting line-up in Paris by clubmates Mike Brown, Joe Marler and captain Chris Robshaw.
It is the first time Care has started for his country since facing Italy in last season’s competition.
* Harlequins were this week confirmed as winners of Saturday’s abandoned LV= Cup clash with Leicester Tigers.
Quins had been leading 20-6 through tries from Paul Sackey, Mauri Fa’asavalu and Tom Guest, before the game was halted with nine minutes to go due to gale force winds.
