Skipper John Cottam’s last minute try saw Weybridge Vandals secure a 19-15 triumph at Twickenham and go some way to guaranteeing London Division Two South West survival on Saturday.
Head coach Ian Bardgett’s men had a man of the match performance from their captain to thank as he completed a second-half brace to help his side back from a 15-9 deficit at the break.
Visiting full-back Cassian Bramham-Law potted three first-half penalties to set-up Cottam’s match-winning heroics, that also included a try saving tackle with the hosts inches from scoring a decisive third try.
The win saw Vandals - so often on the wrong end of results in similar circumstances this season - secure the double over former coach Earle Wilkes’ Twickenham and condemn them to a nervous battle against relegation.
Vandals host struggling London South Africa next weekend as they look to stretch their recent unbeaten run to four matches.
