Wimbledon face their toughest test yet in London Division One South when they go to second-placed Chichester this weekend.

If that was not enough, there is no rest up as Dons go to third-placed Chobham in the final match before the Christmas break.

However, they go into the double whammy in confident mood on the back of three consecutive wins, culminating in a 33-13 victory over Staines on Saturday.

Now Dons head coach James Ogilvy-Bull believes remaining unbeaten before Christmas will bring them right back into the promotion race.

“Chichester are the benchmark in this league, and going there will be extremely tough,” he said.

“But we’re in confident mood, and if we get something at Chichester, that will set us up nicely for Chobham. Chobham lost recently, so we know they can be turned over.”

He added: “It has been a frustrating season in many ways. We’ve missed out on wins by the narrowest of margins, and on other times we’ve just not turned up.

“We’ve had injury problems too, at one point I had 60 players on my list, and only 32 were available.”

Wimbledon’s last victim, Staines, are propping up the table without a single point to the their name, but Ogilvy-Bull says their latest win was as important as any other this season.

“It gave us a good chance to give some players a run out who might not normally get one,” he said.

“We tried new combinations and they worked well, and it sets us up for this weekend.”

Ogilvy-Bull is without long-term absentees Chris Lewis (bicep) and Rob Tait (ankle) – although Lewis could return in the new year – while Pete Wallace misses out with concussion.
