Tough rugby is up and running

The summer 2008 Premiership Touch Rugby leagues are open for registrations with venues announced all around the London & South East region.

Teams wishing to participate in Premiership Touch Rugby from May to August can register at www.touchrugby.co.uk.

The extended venues for this year will see leagues taking place at rugby clubs throughout England with some leagues staged at Guinness Premiership club grounds.

And in addition to the leagues this year there will be regional finals taking place for teams to compete for the chance to be crowned Premiership Touch Rugby Champions of England at Twickenham Stadium.

The growth of Premiership Touch Rugby has been phenomenal and this year's programme is expected to be the biggest touch rugby tournament of its kind.

Men and women of all ages and abilities can take part in mixed sex leagues. Men's, women's and veteran's leagues may also be made available subject to demand.

Premiership Touch Rugby is helping spread the popularity of the game of rugby.

Touch rugby's non-contact nature, social aspect and low time commitment make it appealing to men and women who have work, family and social commitments but who enjoy exercising in a social environment.

Premiership Touch Rugby is a partnership between Premier Rugby Ltd, the Guinness Premiership clubs, the RFU, and participating clubs to provide a fun social activity during the traditionally quiet rugby summer months.

Premier Rugby Ltd Community Manager Wayne Morris said: "The pilot leagues last year provided a great base to launch the expanded 2008 programme with new venues and partnerships with the RFU and participating clubs, allowing for more teams and players to take part."

RFU Leisure Rugby Project Manager Dan Brown said "The fun social aspect, low time commitment and ability to attract players who may never have set foot in a rugby club before will have benefits to participating venue clubs in terms of revenues as well as all round benefits for participants."
