Miles Mantella is hoping to celebrate signing a new two-year deal with London Scottish, by becoming the Championship’s most potent try scorer.

The 22-year-old former Harlequins star tops the try charts alongside Bristol’s George Watkins with team-mate Mark Bright one score behind the pair with 16.

Mantella and Watkins go head-to-head at the Athletic Ground tomorrow as the exiles bring the curtain down on their league campaign.

And, while head coach James Buckland’s men can finish no better or worse than fifth, Mantella has plenty on his mind – starting with laying down a marker for next term.

“If you had given me 17 tries at the beginning of this season I would definitely have taken that.

“I have had more game time and more responsibility on the park this year, which I believe has improved me as a player.

“I am extremely happy to be staying and look forward to pushing on next season and having an even better season.

“It is more enjoyable when you are winning and we have managed to do that quite a lot this season.

“The squad should be strong next season and hopefully we can kick-on.

“We showed in patches that we could compete for a top four finish and hopefully next season we can be up there.”

He added: “It would be a good send off if we won. I am looking forward to playing against George Watkins. It should be fun.

“He is good attacking player, very quick and scores a shed load of tries.”
