London Cornish press officer Ben Gilby is urging rugby fans to join in a day of fundraising, where a once in a life-time prize is up for grabs.

Gilby, who is recovering from testicular cancer, has organised an auction of unique rugby memorabilia.

It will take place at the exiles’ home at The Richardson Evans Memorial playing fields on Saturday from 11am.

The day will start with a sponsored kicking at the posts event with the aim of getting as many successful kicks as possible in an hour.

Then it is time for the auction for items including a ball signed by the full Harlequins first team squad, including England captain Chris Robshaw, a signed Barbarians shirt, tickets for Barbarians v Samoa at the London Olympic stadium on August 29.

Up for grabs will also be tickets for matches at Premiership side Worcester Warriors and Championship clubs Bristol and Cornish Pirates matches.

However, the star lot is a mascot package for a child aged five to 12 for the Barbarians v Argentina match at Twickenham on November 21.

Included in this lot are three match tickets, and a once in a life time opportunity for a child to lead the Barbarians team out on to the hallowed Twickenham turf in front of thousands of spectators and to meet some of the world’s greatest rugby players.

The child will also get to keep the Barbarians kit.

The final auction will take place on August 8, but sealed bids can be left for any item on 18th July.

All funds raised will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, and the Falmouth-based testicular cancer charity 'Pants'.
