While the public focus of the mini marathon last weekend was on young celebrity Romeo Beckham, Team Richmond’s U13 girls team were not distracted from the task in hand.

Isabel Atkins, who finished third in her age group, led the team home to a U13 girls gold medal in the borough challenge that saw 46 athletes from the borough – aged 11 to 17 years old – take on the the last three miles of the London marathon course on Sunday.

David and Victoria Beckham looked on as son Romeo led home Team Chelsea & Kensington to 20th place in the U13 boys category – in which Richmond came 10th.

Ben Tatters finished 19th in the U15 boys race to bring Richmond home in an impressive second place.

The U17 girls finished fourth, U15 girls eighth and U17 boys 16th to help Richmond finish fourth overall – the eighth successive year they have finished in the competition’s top five.

Richmond council cabinet member for sport Councillor Meena Bond said: “They ran their hearts out and did Richmond proud.

“The times the children and young people recorded for their ages are hugely impressive. Many adult runners who train frequently will never get close to these kinds of times.”
