Danny Care’s summer plans may yet save Harlequins’ Premiership campaign, writes Pippa Field.

Injury denied the 27-year-old an appearance at the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand and the scrum half is determined not to miss England’s tour to All Black territory this year.

Care started all five Six Nations games for his country this year and is set on avenging a 37-20 Test defeat to the world champions in 2008 on his international debut as a replacement in Auckland.

But he is only too aware a strong finish to the campaign with Quins, which could end with the Amlin Cup back in the club’s trophy cabinet, is the priority.

“My first ever tour with England was to New Zealand, my first cap. I know what it’s like to play down there,” said Care an HSBC ambassador for the Rosslyn Park Sevens.

“Rugby is their life, so what better place to go and test ourselves against the best team in the world. If I  play all three Tests it would be 50 caps. I’d be very proud if it happens.

“By no means will I be resting on my laurels. I know there are two or three people fighting for my position.

“I have to play well for Quins to deserve it. All we can do is win as many games as we can.”

Tries from Mike Brown and Tim Molenaar set up an Amlin Cup semi-final clash at Northampton Saints on April 25 with a 26-9 win at Stade Francias last Friday.
