Kew gained a morale-boosting draw with Gerrard's Cross in a thrilling match at Kew Green on Saturday, writes Stuart Cosstick.

After being asked to bat, Kew lost opener Unsworth in the second over, but recovered to reach 225-3 thanks to a second wicket stand of 101 by Ali Jaffer (59) and David Rowley (56), followed by further half centuries from Kidron Thomas (57) and skipper Rob Tindall (56).

In reply's 265-9, Gerrards Cross were well-placed at 176-3, but Jaffer (5-78) then rupped through the middle order to leave them on 190-7 with 11 overs left.

The game swung back to Cross and the visitors needed five off the last over, while Kew required one wicket. In the end, Cross fell three runs short, with Kew left regretting five missed catches.

Kew host Beaconsfield tomorrow (11.30am).

Promotion-chasing Kew seconds beat Reading fourth XI by six wickets. Reading managed 146 in 42 overs, Nick Houlton taking four wickets, and Kew easily reached their target, with Ed Knowles (79) and Mike Dunn (40) the main contributors.
