Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has taken a swipe at Manchester City by claiming his side can achieve success without the backing of “Arab billionaires”.

Bayern, who have already wrapped up the Bundesliga title and are through to the final of the DFB-Pokal, take on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals as they eye a possible treble.

Big-spending City, who are owned by Sheikh Mansour of the Abu Dhabi ruling family, have won the Premier League, but were knocked out of the Champions League by Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

“We can make it to the semi-finals of the Champions League without Arab or Russian billionaires,” said Rummenigge in an interview with Sport Bild.

“We have a different philosophy to Manchester City or PSG (Paris St Germain), which can be an example for other clubs.”
