Wimbledon Raceway sees another first in its long and distinguished history tomorrow when the youngsters in the junior banger class compete in the first ever running of their English Championship.

The junior banger formula is the newest class in the ever-expanding Spedeworth stable of stock car racing.

Jack Anscombe, 14, has been a consistent winner throughout the summer season, but who will win the title is wide open as the grid will be formed by a public draw.

One for the future: Jack Anscombe

Each driver will select a number from a hat, that will then determine their starting position on the grid.

With so many cars on track, the uncertainty of the draw not only adds to the excitement of the evening, but it also could make or break someone’s race.

Further contact action comes from the adult bangers in their regular Winter League - with qualifying for the championship of the world now over, the drivers can relax a little and enjoy a crash or two.

While plenty of drivers will be looking to put on a show, others, such as the capital’s Reece Priestly and Mark Gallop, will be more interested in accumulating league points.

Brighton-based driver Rob Barnes leads the table after a solid night’s racing last time out.

With so many drivers breathing down his neck in a championship that keeps on throwing up unlikely winners, Barnes cannot afford a bad week.

Non-contact racing comes from the rookie rods who are flourishing currently with packed grids every meeting.

One of the best things about the rookie rods is the unpredictable nature of the results, as we often have different winners of each race, something which keeps it entertaining and exciting for both drivers and spectators.

Rookie rods final winner last time round: Paul Warren

Last time out, the night’s final was won by south London’s Paul Warren - his second final win of 2014, following up from his victory at Aldershot earlier on in the year.

Finally completing the bill is a welcome return of the mighty V8 stock cars to Plough Lane.

The season opener in October saw Peter Scott take a race win, but it was English champion David Burton who took the final that evening.

Racing starts at 5.30pm, with turnstiles open at 4.30pm.
