Wimbledon Raceway welcomes a new season of stock car and banger racing to the capital - and it all roars into life on Sunday.

Things start with a bang as London hosts the 2014 Superstox World Championship with Steven Jackson many people's favourite to take the gold.

He has already taken the English Championship this year, so a world final win would cap his year off nicely.

Another favourite will be Jason "Super" Cooper, who has been so dominant in the formula this year.

After winning the National Championship just a matter of weeks ago, Chris Roots will also be full of confidence, and is expected to be a threat on this occasion.

Other drivers who will be worth keeping an eye on are Glenn Salmon and Matt Carberry.

The bangers are back at Wimbledon stadium to kick-off their 2014/2015 domestic league, but can anyone break the current dominance of trio Rob Haines, Mark Pope and Darren Terry?

Sheldon Grimes and James Vockins have both been going well of late in the summer season, and are the likely challengers to the unbeatable three in bangers right now.

Impressive: James Vockins (271) has been in fine form in the bangers domestic season

Although it’s not only about winning in bangers as plenty of drivers will be out there simply to cause havoc, ruining as many drivers' nights as possible.

Finally, the V8 stock cars roar back into Plough Lane. As well as hearing them, you will be able to spot one of the most experienced drivers in the formula in Peter Scott, as his green and white flying machine is always capable of taking a win or two.

His nearest challenger will be David Burton, who took an impressive victory in the Southern Championship back in the summer.

Racing starts at 5.30pm with turnstiles open at 4.30pm. Rain or shine Wimbledon stadium is fully enclosed for spectators, and offers superb views from the covered grandstands indoors or out.
