A positive weekend in Spa, Belgium, has lifted Banstead’s Matt Flowers to ninth in the G40 Ginetta GT5 challenge.
He finished the weekend’s races in eighth, seventh and sixth – his best positions since Rockingham in May.
Flowers was delighted with his performance on the track used for the Belgium Grand Prix.
He said: “I’m really happy. It’s an amazing place and a massive track. “This was my best performance in a while, I had a good start to the season but the last few weeks have been a real struggle.
“It’s been tough with the lack of sponsorship and being low on budget after an accident on the first weekend at Oulton.
“But I managed to get a good day of testing in before Spa and that really helped.
“It’s been so tough to get any testing in at all, and to afford the tyres, so it’s been a real struggle lately, but hopefully this result will help me push on.”
"It was nice to have a good weekend and it would be good to have a strong finish to the season.”
Flowers now has four weeks off before the next race at Brands Hatch and has hopes of a podium finish, he added: “Ultimately I want to win, but I know it’s tough – it’s been a steep learning curve this year, but hopefully I can push for a podium or at least a top six place.”
After Brands Hatch (August 10), Flowers will compete in the final round of the season at Donington Park on October 5.
