Streatham Redskins begin a new era in their history this Saturday as they play their first game at the Planet Ice Brixton Arena.
The temporary rink in Brixton will be Redskins’ home for the next two years whilst the Streatham Ice Arena is torn down and rebuilt.
Despite ending their long stay there with a thumping 10-3 victory over Milton Keynes Thunder before Christmas, Barry Spours’ side will be hard pressed to christen their new home with a similar scoreline this weekend as they host National South One leaders Romford Raiders.
The players have already trained at the new facilities, close to Brixton Underground station, and enjoyed themselves, although alternate captain David Carr is worried teams travelling to south London will prefer facing them at their new home than their old.
“The lads were like kids at Christmas during training,” he said.
“The facilities are great and little things like warm showers, straight boards and good quality ice makes such a difference.
“The only problem I foresee is that most teams usually hate playing against us at home, but with this rink they will now look forward to it."
The game starts at 6.45pm.
