Kingston & Polytechnic Harrriers retained Southern Athletics League Division Three South West top spot in match winning fashion on Saturday.

The Kingsmeadow club clocked up 300 points to comfortably win their match on home soil, finishing a whopping 92 points ahead of nearest rivals Horsham Blue Star Harriers.

Pippa Wingate was named female athlete of the match for throws of 12.55 metres and 56.00m to win the women’s shot and hammer respectively.

Her exploits were two of 23 A string event wins in a dominant display from the home team.

Kingston can secure the title at Kingsmeadow on August 14 when second-placed Hastings, third-placed North Devon and fourth placed Bracknell and Hercules Wimbledon are the visitors.

Walton Athletics Club seem assured of Division One safety after a second place finish in their match at Stompond Lane on Saturday.

Walton were only 1.5 points behind Colchester Harriers on the day and now sit eighth in the table ahead of the final weekend of the campaign.

Throwing star Sophie Mace was named female athlete of the match, with her effort of 43.57m to win the women’s A string discus enough to have won the men’s event too.

She also threw 47.16m to win the women’s hammer.

Meanwhile, Kingston &  Polytechnic Harrier Chris Dack threw a disappointing 15.13 metres to finish 10th at the British Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.

Dack’s personal best is 15.87m.
