Surbiton’s Moe Sbihi has proved he is on course for a place in the Team GB rowing squad at next year’s Olympics.
The Molesey Boat Club set a new indoor 2,000m personal best at the British Indoor Rowing Championships last Sunday, showing he is in good shape ahead of this year’s qualifying process.
Sbihi clocked five minutes 45.4 seconds – a time just short of Sir Matthew Pinsent’s British record – to claim the title ahead of GB team-mate Will Satch.
“There was a bit of pressure on the GB squad, because we were the ones to beat,” said the 26-year-old.
“I tried not to make a big deal out of it – that has always been my thought process – as it’s something I do every day.
“It’s been a good couple of weeks for me. I feel in a good place at the moment.”
