Teddington could be the breeding ground for the next generation of Team GB wheelchair basketball stars.

Cash from Richmond Council’s inclusive sport and exercise project, plus money from Sport England’s inclusive sports fund has seen the launch of new sessions in wheelchair basketball, tennis, football, gym and swimming.

Wheelchair basketball takes place every Thursday, from 6pm to 7pm, at Teddington Sport Centre in Broom Road.

And session regular Duncan Cassley-Sharon hopes it can help him on the path to the Paralympics.

“It’s a real release playing wheelchair basketball from day-to-day life,” he said.

“It’s an excellent work out for me to get the muscles working and gives me the chance to experience what it is like to move quickly.

“I would like to one day play for Team GB at a national level. Now it’s all about continuing to train hard and hope that their scouts take notice.”
