Strikers Gareth Williams and Gary Noel scored again as Croydon Athletic registered their eighth win in a row in all competitions by beating Burgess Hill Town 2-0 at the KT Stadium.
The Rams were always in control and had early chances in the first 10 minutes.
A good cross from Ben Godfrey saw Gareth Williams shoot just wide and Tom Bolarinwa came close when his slice across the goal was tipped over the bar by Chris Winterton in the Burgess Hill goal.
Croydon did open the scoring in the 11th minute when Williams continued his recent goalscoring form by netting his 11th goal in 11 games, skipping into the penalty box and smashing the ball home.
Croydon's appeals for a handball in the penalty area in the 25th minute were ignored by the referee but the home side continued to dominate the first half despite late chances for Burgess Hill from John Lansdale and Steve Harper.
The second half saw good attempts from Bolarinwa and Rory Hill and a good cross in from Joe Howe but Winterton in the Burgess Hill goal managed to keep his side in it.
Some great work from Chris Piper for the Rams saw him beat three players in the box but his final shot went just wide in the 80th minute.
The Hillians tried to push forward but the Rams’ defence, with debutant Joe Dolan impressive and Ben Lewis outstanding, kept everything at bay.
The crowd had to wait until the 89th minute for Croydon to secure the points when some good work from Thompson saw the ball fall to top scorer Noel to slot it home and give the Rams the victory.
They are still second in Ryman Division One South a point behind leaders Folkestone Invicta, who have played two games more.
