John Morris has revealed he had little hesitation in filling the Walton Casuals manager's hotseat left by the departing Luke Dowling.

Morris, assistant manager under Dowling, was confirmed as new supremo at Franklyn Road last week, and he insisted the future looks bright.

Morris said: "I thought for continuity it was best to stay.

"I like the club, I have enjoyed my time here and it is a good time to be at Walton Casuals.

"It will always be difficult because of budgets but it can be done. I am looking up rather than down.

"I think we have established ourselves in the Ryman League now and it is time to move the club forward."

Morris will be assisted by the returning Spencer Collins, who arrives back at the Stags after taking a couple of years out for family reasons.

And Morris is confident that good times are ahead, as long as the club can keep hold of its young talent.

He added: "We have some very good young players here and they are the foundation of the team. Other clubs are already sniffing around and my priority is to keep what we have got before I look at adding anybody."

Club director Tony Gale is convinced he has a Franklyn Road dream team in place.

Gale said: "Luke did a good job in his first season and I am confident John will do well.

"Spencer coming back is a big plus as I think he was one of the best managers we have had in recent years.

"We need to kick on - we drew too many games last season.

"But converting draws into wins can also be converting draws into defeats and we must not let that happen."
