New Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has appointed former Glenthorne High School PE teacher Paul Clement as an assistant at the Bernabeu.

Clement, 41, worked at the Sutton Court Road school from 1995 to 2000 and has since coached at Chelsea, where he first worked with Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti.

He has since worked with Blackburn Rovers and Paris St Germain, where he was reunited with the Italian, who replaced Jose Mourinho as manager last week and has taken Clement with him to Madrid.

Clement will also work alongside the likes of French footballing legend great Zinedine Zidane, who is director of football with Real, and some of the world's best players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Mezut Ozil and Xabi Alonso.

Belinda Norman, director of sport at Glenthorne, worked with Clement before he left and said: "It's fantastic, absolutely brilliant and we're really pleased for him.

"He did a lot of football here and coached a lot of teams.

"He came back here a couple of years ago when he was with Chelsea to talk to the children. He encouraged them to aim for their targets and set high standards for themselves.

"I think he's a great example for them."

Clement started off working part-time with Chelsea's Football in the Community Programme and working for his UEFA coaching badges while still working as a teacher.

He worked his way up through the ranks to the point where he was working with Chelsea's first team then interim coach Guus Hiddink appointed him as an assistant in 2009.

His successor, Ancelotti, made Clement his number two and the pair forged a strong bond.

Clement spent three months at Blackburn last year before linking up with Ancelotti at Paris St Germain where he also worked with David Beckham, won the French League and got to the quarter finals of the Champions League

He will now start the new season at the Spanish giants, occupying dug out Jose Mourinho sat in last season.
