3:00pm Friday 4th November 2011 in Kingstonian By Stuart Amos
Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has told goal hero Sam Clayton there is room for improvement in his game.
Clayton struck a 68th minute 30-yard wonder goal before Tom Bird found the net direct from a free kick, as Ks came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Wingate & Finchley at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.
The 24-year-old former Tooting & Mitcham man, who netted again in Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Concord Rangers, has been in and out of the starting line-up for Ks this term.
And Dowson believes there is only one reason for that – a lack of consistency.
“Sam is a pleasure to work with because he never causes any problems,” he said.
“It was a great goal. I’ve never seen him make a tackle – even in training – but he can do some unbelievable things with the ball.
“He is the sort of guy you want in the team because he can create something out of nothing and is a genuinely nice lad.
“He’s just got to get a bit more consistency to his game and I’m sure that will come as he plays more.”
Kingstonian have now won five of their last seven games – drawing and losing the other two – after a horror start to the campaign.
Ryman Premier League rivals Met Police have produced an identical run to sit third in the table.
And Dowson, who saw Romone McCrae net the other two goals on Tuesday, wants to follow that lead.
“We’ve not done badly recently and it shows what you can do when you put a string of results together,” he added.
“All of a sudden we are as close to the top as we are the bottom. It is all about the next game though. Defeat can change everything.”
And Clayton agreed a run of wins could yet put Kingstonian on course for the top.
“We can still make the top five. We just need to win four or five on the spin,” he added.
