Trophy cash blow won't de-rail Ks

Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has revealed he will not have to let players go, despite the financial blow of Sunday’s FA Trophy exit.

Ks lost out on £2,200 in prize money as their interest in the second main cup competition of the season ended with a 1-0 defeat to Ryman Division One South side Godalming Town.

It was a third successive defeat for Dowson’s men having revived their league campaign with three straight wins over Ryman Premier League top five opposition.

The Kingsmeadow chief, who is yet to enjoy a significant cup run as Ks boss, admitted the cup exit was a financial blow, but insisted it would not affect his plans for the team.

“There is a lot of pressure to do well in the cup competitions because there is a lot of money at stake,” he said.

“At the moment I don’t have to let anybody go. Can I bring anyone in? Probably not.

“But we are not too far away from getting it right with this group of players.”

Striker Bobby Traynor – and the Ks midfield – was unusually shot shy at the weekend, and Godalming punished Kingstonian’s wastefulness with a first-half strike from Ben Edwards to settle the tie.

“Some of the chances we missed were scandalous,” added Dowson.

“We had so many good chances. It always looked like being one of those days. We’ve got to get some wins together quickly. We’ve done it before and can do it again.”

Kingstonian, who host Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, roared back on Tuesday with a 3-1 win at Harrow Borough.
