Kingstonian boss Tommy Williams has admitted that any hopes of reaching the Ryman Premier Division play-offs are all but extinct.

After dropping five points over Easter, and another two last weekend from a 2-2 draw at home to East Thurrock United – featuring a double strike from Alan Inns – Ks sit five points off fifth spot, with just two games to play.

While Williams wants a strong end to the season, the preparations for next season have already begun, and that includes drawing up a list of who stays, and who goes.

He said: “Mathematically the play-offs are still possible, but it will be very difficult now. We are relying heavily on other teams slipping up, and that is never an ideal scenario.

“All managers will look back over the season and say ‘ifs, buts and maybes’, and I can say that we have dropped points this season at key times.

“Canvey over Easter is a prime example – we were 1-0 up with minutes to play and we conceded a soft goal.

“Suddenly three points is one point, and things like that over the season all add up to the situation we find ourselves in now.”

He added: “But we’ve learned a lot this season as a management team and we’re looking to put our stamp on this league next season.

“There will be a few personnel changes, and we have already started to put the wheels in motion behind the scenes for next season.

“I am already excited about our pre-season.”

Williams said: “We may give some of the fringe players a chance in the final couple of games.

“However, we owe it to ourselves, the fans, the league and the other teams to put in as strong a performance as possible.”
