Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson wants the spirit of legendary striker Bobby Traynor back at the club.

Goals from Tommy Kavanagh and Ryan Moss secured a 2-0 win over Leiston on Saturday as Ks ended a run of back-to-back 2-0 defeats.

The result moved Dowson's men up to third in the Ryman Premier League table, but it could have been a more convincing win had Kingstonian made more of the opportunities they created.

And the Kingsmeadow chief wants his current strike partnership of Moss and Andre McCollin to take a leaf out of the Traynor book of goalscoring, if his side is to maintain a promotion push this term.

"We are starting to spread the goals around a bit, but at the end of the day centre forwards are paid to score goals," he said.

"I do not buy this talk of barren spells and stuff like that. It is a striker's job to score goals.

"We need to be more clinical.  Bobby Traynor used to score 35 goals a season because he converted the chances we created. We need our strikers to get a bit of Bobby in them.

"In the recent defeats we have had some unbelievable chances to score and not taken them. We have not done an awful lot wrong, it is just we are not taking our chances."

Kavanagh and Moss struck in each half to give Ks their 10th league win of the season and Dowson is clear what his priority is this season.

"We will never draw that many games because we attack every game. That is why we score a lot of goals," he said.

"You might draw two games in a row, but winning one game and losing one still gives you more points and that is why we always play to win.

"We are out of the FA Cup and FA Trophy so that leaves the league for me.

"We want to win every game, but I will not be remembered at the end of the season for what I do in the Surrey Senior Cup or the Ryman League Cup.

"We are still in the mix and we will try and stay there."
