Tom Collins might have had a hat-trick for Hampton & Richmond Borough on Tuesday night, but he believes it is only of matter of time before he cashes in at the Beveree.

The 22-year-old struck his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win over Enfield Town that extended new boss Alan Dowson’s unbeaten start to his reign.

Collins squandered two one-on-ones, was inexplicably booked for diving with the goal at his mercy after rounding the keeper and saw a penalty saved in the closing 20 minutes of Dowson’s second win at the helm.

And the former Wealdstone man, signed last week ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 win over East Thurrock United, “It was one of them nights, really. It was nice to get my first goal and another win for the team, which is the main thing, he said.

“I could have had four or five and I think I’d back myself to get 100 in a season after getting that many chances.

"Seriously, I’d like to get 10 before December and see where it goes. For now I’ll do my best to score goals and win games for Hampton.”

Collins looks like he could form a potent strike force alongside Charlie Moone, scorer of the winner on Saturday.

But for the moment he is just getting used to enjoying football again under a manager he believes can get the best out of the current Beveree squad.

“I wasn’t playing at Wealdstone. Alan said I’d play here and I’m enjoying just playing,” he added.

“Charlie [Moone] is a good lad and scores goals, so hopefully we can get a partnership going and score more.

“Alan is a good manager. It is the first time I’ve worked under him. He gets the boys going and it is working on the pitch.

“Another win on Saturday will take us right up there.”

Hampton head to AFC Hornchurch tomorrow, knowing their hosts ended Dowson’s Kingstonian promotion hopes last term.
