The long journey into Suffolk is never the easiest and on a humid warm day, and Hampton & Richmond toiled to secure a point from a goalless draw at Leiston.

The first chance of the game fell to an unmarked Joe Turner, whose header from 15 yards was easily saved by Rossi.

For next half hour, Leiston dominated. On 22 minutes Parker sprinted towards the near post to meet a Broadley corner and his header just cleared the bar. Just afterwards, Leiston captain David Head just missed Broadley's free kick at the back post, when it appeared to just need a touch to open the scoring.

On 28 minutes, Parker's venomous strike beat keeper Rodney Chiweshe but clipped the bar and then, seven minutes later, Redgrave hit a first-time shot from just outside the box and Rodney did well to catch the ball at full stretch as it swerved towards him.

The Beavers managed to repel the Leiston midfield as the half came to a close and, just before the break, Charlie Moone manage to win the ball on the edge of the box, but his shot hit a defender at the near post and then rebounded off Dan Thompson for a goal kick.

The second half was slow to get going as the Beavers stifled the previously positive hosts, and, on 56 minutes, nearly snatched a goal.  Joe Turner's cross-cum-shot was blocked by the defence and from the corner, Moone's glancing header hit Rossi and was cleared.

It took another 35 minutes for the next clear chance and it fell to the Beavers. Rodney's long throw-out, all of 40 yards, fell to Moone on the halfway line, he beat a covering defender to reach the edge of the box, but Rossi was equal to his shot and the chance was lost.

Two minutes later, Joe Turner went on another of his mazy runs, beating three defenders in doing so, but the shot from 18 yards was an easy take by Rossi, being straight at him.

By now, the Beavers were running out of time to try and pinch a goal, having had much of the possession for the closing 15 minutes, but it so easily could have been taken away from them with just four minutes remaining.

Broadley, whose dead ball abilities had caused the Beavers problems all afternoon, hit a 25-yard shot on the run, the ball dipping as it flew towards the Hampton goal.  However, it didn't dip enough and landed on the roof of the net.

The defensive unit of Tommy Brewer, Justyn Roberts, George Wells and co-manager Darren Powell had a sound afternoon. Up front, Dan Thompson showed what he's learned in the period he's been elsewhere, winning headers, holding up play and making some good passes throughout the game.
