Hampton & Richmond Borough chairman Steve McPherson has confirmed former Brentford defender Darren Powell is on the brink of a return to the Beveree.
The 35-year-old centre-back, without a club since leaving MK Dons in 2010, started his career with the Beavers before switching to Griffin Park where he enjoyed a successful four-year stay.
Powell, who would add much needed experience to boss Mark Harper’s young side, went on to play for Crystal Palace and Southampton.
McPherson revealed he was close to featuring in Hampton’s 2-2 draw at Sutton United on Tuesday.
“It is not certain, but we are hoping he will play on Saturday,” he added.
