Rosler firms up Bees defensive ideals

Defensive solidity has been the name of the game for Brentford this week as they look to get back on the winning trail at home to Walsall tomorrow.

The Bees gifted Tranmere two goals last weekend as they let slip a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 – their fourth stalemate in their last five games to leave them five points off the play-offs.

But after a week of defensive drills, manager Uwe Rosler, who saw Gary Alexander and Clayton Alexander score on Saturday, is confident Bees fans will see the difference at Griffin Park tomorrow.

“In the summer, we worked on the way we wanted to defend and it showed at the start of the season,” he said.

“But since then, some new players have come from clubs where there is a different approach so we refreshed a few things we haven’t done for a while and worked on how it was in the summer.

“We just needed to clarify it to the new players and now we are well prepared for Walsall.

“The atmosphere is very good and we feel confident with the way we have played lately.

“We have picked up offensively and look like scoring goals so now we just need to focus on not conceding goals.”

Rosler, who is in negotiations with an unnamed player for a loan until the end of the season, conceded victory against the Saddlers tomorrow was vital if the Bees are to reignite their play-off push.

“The glass is always half full,” he added.

“We have had some good draws in the last five games but to stay in contention we need to start winning, especially at home.

“Playing wise, we are not far off, we have improved in certain areas but fallen back in others.”
