Brentford's haul of nine points from their past three games has re-ignited their Championship campaign and it may be down to one man - and that man is not new head coach Lee Carsley.

The Bees capped a perfect week with a 3-0 win at Charlton Athletic on Saturday to go with triumphs over Rotherham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the previous seven days.

It has fired Carsley's men up to mid-table having seemed certain of a long battle against relegation only a fortnight ago.

It has coincided with the return of Alan McCormack to the heart of Brentford's midfield, having made only 18 appearances last term under Mark Warburton and been used more as a full back by his successor Marinus Djikhuizen.

Carsley has been impressed by the 31-year-old's return to form that has made his team look more secure in defence and threatening going forward.

And he has urged the Irishman - who already has six yellow cards this term - to maintain his discipline for the good of the team.

"It looks like he has got his legs back and can really go," he said.

"Obviously, we’re asking him to play a different role, rather than just sit in front of the back four.

"We need that energy he has got and that he can go box to box. Over the last three or four games, his attitude and how he motivates those around him, he is a proper team player.

"He’s got a lot of energy and it’s important he uses that in the right way. No point playing seven games and getting seven bookings.

"He’s an important player for the team and as one of the older players he has to use his experience and know-how to help the younger ones."

After Saturday's derby win over Charlton, the Bees host QPR in a west London derby on Friday night.

It is a much anticipated clash following Rangers' relegation from the Premier League and Carsley has told his players they need to match the fans' thirst for the encounter.

"I’ve played in the Merseyside derby, which was a good game to play in," he added.

"The main thing you have to get on the pitch is the passion.

"You have to replicate what the fans are feeling because they are the ones who have to go to work on the Monday morning.

"It’s important that the team that lines up on Friday night understands the passion of the fans.”
