Midfielder Stuart Dallas has never appeared in the play-offs, but the memory of Brentford’s League One final defeat to Yeovil Town in 2013 is enough for him to know he does not want to be in a losing team.

The 24-year-old has made 37 Championship appearances for the Bees this term and played a key role in the club’s surge to a top six finish.

Dallas was in the stands at Wembley as Yeovil pipped the Bees to a place in the second tier of English football two years ago and he does not want a repeat with a place in the Premier League up for grabs.

“Everybody wants to play at the highest level they can. Hopefully, that is with Brentford,” he said.

“People maybe doubted we could make the play-offs, but we showed a bit of steal and a bit of fight and we have proved a lot of people wrong. We never stopped believing.”

He added: “We got beat in the play-offs final in my first season at the club.

“I wasn't in the squad, but I was there and saw the disappointment and I don’t want to feel that again.”

Dallas added two Northern Ireland caps to his collection this term under Warburton, having seemed on his way out of Griffin Park when the 52-year-old took charge.

Warburton will leave at the end of the season come what may and Dallas revealed sending him off in style would be the best way repay his manager’s faith.

“It has been a good old season for me,” he added.

“You’ve got to give the manager credit for bringing me straight back from Northampton Town last season when he took over.

“I have kicked on. Hopefully there is more to come.

“Everybody wants to send him [Warburton] off on a high. He has been incredible with each and everyone of us.

“You can see what he means to the fans and the players.

“We’ll move heaven and earth to get to where we want to be and Mark has got to take a lot of credit for that.”
