Brentford boss Mark Warburton revealed a half-time 'heart-to-heart' with his men got them back to winning ways at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday to keep them dreaming of Premier League football next term.

The Bees, who remain sixth in the Championship table, battled back from 2-1 down at the break to win 3-2 thanks to second half strikes from Jota and substitute Andre Gray.

Rudy Gestede's 16th goal of the season had given the hosts a fifth-minute lead, but Chris Long's deflected effort levelled only for Chris Taylor to strike on the stroke of half-time.

Despite the win, Brentford's defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday means there is only one point between them and seventh placed Ipswich Town, while they are seven points off the summit.

Warburton knows his men have a minimum of eight games to secure a place in the top flight but he is looking no further than the visit of Millwall on Saturday.

“It wasn’t a good first half for us, by the standards the guys have set," he said.

“But full credit to them for the character they showed in the second half.

“We looked dangerous, strong, moved the ball and thoroughly deserved the win.

He added: "We wanted to play and the pitch was difficult, but that is no excuse, the players made individual errors.

“There were poor passes and sloppy clearances.

"We gave the ball away in key areas, below the standards they set, but they’re human, we learn by mistakes.

“We had words at half time as a group and the character they showed was outstanding.

“We were angry at half time. The players have set consistently high standards and they know that is not the standard.

“They responded fantastically well. They are eight games from achieving something special.”
