Brenford boss Mark Warburton has insisted off the field issues were not to blame for his side's insipid derby defeat at Charlton Athletic.

Goals from Johan Gudmundsson, Igor Vetokele and Frederoic Bulot ensured a second Championship defeat in succession for the Bees since news owner Matthew Benham is considering replacing Warburton as boss broke.

An announcement on the 52-year-old's future is expected this week and the manager insisted his players had not been distracted by the uncertainty.

“No excuses. We trained well and were ready," said Warburton.

"It's an honest group of players which has many qualities. But we gave the ball away, were slow to the ball and weren't good enough.

"Our standards dropped and we paid the price.

"It's too easy to come in and say matters off the pitch are having an effect.  As a staff we wouldn't allow that to happen.

"I'm sure there will be a statement out next week. Our job is to look after the players and the supporters, who deserve better than that."
