Fit again Alan McCormack is long enough in the tooth to know he faces a struggle to get back in the Brentford starting line up – not least because of Moses Odubajo’s fine form.

The 23-year-old full back, signed from Leyton Orient in the summer, has starred as the Bees have cemented a place in the top six in their first season in the Championship under Mark Warbuton.

McCormack returned from ankle surgery with a 75 minute run out for the development squad in a 1-0 win at Cardiff City on Monday and is hoping to be in line for a first team appearance at Leeds United this weekend.

But the former Swindon Town man knows he will have to wait his turn having labeled Odubajo’s performances this term as exceptional.

“I’m old enough to know that I’ll not be expecting to knock on the Gaffer’s door on Friday and saying I should be starting on Saturday,” he told the club's website.

“Moses has been unbelievable. He has been one of our best players.

“Every player has been exceptional this year, but he has really stood out.

“He has had to fill in that position at short notice and he deserves to keep it.

“I’ll be happy to step in when I’m called on and I’ll be ready for it.”

McCormack has been sidelined since October and admitted his spell on the treatment table after surgery has been easier to handle with the Bees flying high.

“It has been enjoyable to watch,” he said.

“I have not had to sit and watch defeat after defeat and get frustrated I’m not able to do anything about it.

“The way the lads have played has been exceptional. It is something they have deserved and it is something they strive to be every week.

“Not being part of that has been the downside.”
