Brentford captain Tony Craig is happy to get his future sorted so he can concentrate on matters on the pitch.

The 29-year-old penned a new deal at griffin Park yesterday to extend his stay with the Championship new boys until 2017.

Craig, whose contract was due to to expire next year, joined the club from Millwall in 2012 and helped the Bees to promotion from League One in his second season.

The former Crystal Palace trainee, who made his 100th league appearance for Brentford atr Nottingham Forest last week, has been integral to boss Mark Warburton's plans since he took charge.

And with the Bees currently sitting sixth in the table, Craig is keen to continue in the same manner.

"It took a while discussing things and getting things sorted, but now it is done I can concentrate on the football," he said.

"I've got a family to support and I always wanted to sign. The club is going in the right direction.

"Myself and my family are happy here and you cannot ask for much more than that."

He added: "It has been a good start to the season. We're still learning the league though, but day by day we are getting to be a good team and a tight unit.

"It is a great league to be involved in. We play some great teams in some great stadiums."

And boss Warburton was delighted to have Craig in harness for the foreseeable future.

“It is tremendous news and shows the commitment on both sides to continue the work that has been done over the past few months, " the manager added.

“Tony’s attitude, desire and professionalism on and off the pitch are evident for all to see.

“Securing him for the long term is excellent news for the squad and gives us stability at a vital time of the season.”
