Boss Mark Warburton felt a point was the least Brentford deserved from their trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

In an eagerly anticipated reunion with former boss Uwe Rosler, the Bees paid the price for being profligate in front of goal as they were held 0-0 at the DW stadium.

“I thought we were very good in the first half. We dominated the game in key areas of the park. Disappointed we didn't get the rewards for that," he said.

"We're disappointed not to get more than one point, which shows you how far we've come as a squad of players."

Brentford's first chance came when a flick by Alex Pritchard released Andre Gray down the right, who cut the ball back to Moses Odubajo, with the winger's low shot being pushed round the post by Scott Carson.

In reply Don Cowie saw his shot from 20 yards deflected for a corner.

A lovely piece of skill saw Pritchard dance his way into the Latics' box, but his shot was blocked and cleared.

Wigan created a chance from out of nothing when Sean Maloney was released down the left channel, with David Button pulling off a fine save to tip his low shot round the post.

After former Bee Adam Forshaw slipped as he prepared to shoot, a well flighted ball over the top from Jonathan Douglas released Gray, who outpaced the defence before lobbing his effort over Carson but onto the roof of the net.

Gray again found himself in a good position when the ball broke to him on the right side of the box, but his instinctive effort was wide.

Just before half time a burst of pressure from Wigan briefly put the Bees' defence under pressure, but Jake Bidwell scrambled clear from inside his own six yard box.

Wigan enjoyed a chance early in the second half when Callum McManaman held off Jake Bidwell as he broke towards the byline, but his resulting cross flashed across the Bees goal and was cleared.

Just after an hour the game reached boiling point when Tony Craig and Ivan Ramis tangled inside the Bees' box following a corner, with both players booked, while James Tarkowski also picked up a yellow card for his protests.

At the other end Jota's corner from the right was cleared to the edge of the box, Pritchard's shot was tipped over by Carson.

Jota was involved minutes later when his low shot from the right hand side of the box was saved by Carson.

The Bees enjoyed another chance shortly after when a deep cross from the right was hooked back by Alan Judge, only for Douglas' resulting effort to be inches wide.

After Pritchard conceded a free kick on the edge of Brentford's box, Maloney's effort was pushed away by Button.

As the game entered added on time Judge had another decent effort from 25 yards, but he fired over the bar.
