Brentford boss Dean Smith revealed he got the response he wanted from striker Marco Djuricin on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old was hauled off after 45 minutes of his side's 3-1 defeat to Burnley earlier this month and failed to make the matchday squad for Saturday's 3-1 win at Preston North End.

The Austrian was a second half substitute in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United and had the chance to secure all three points for his side only to fluff his lines.

But Smith saw his performance as a positive as the RB Salzburg loanee continues to find his best form after an enforced spell on the sidelines.

Sharp shooter: Marco Djuricin in action against Birmingham City earlier in the season

"In training he has looked really good over the last few days with the intensity and that is what I've seen from him before," said the Griffin Park chief.

"The first half last week from him wasn't good enough for us and for him and he has taken that on board.

"He has worked hard, got himself back on the bench and on the pitch and, if his touch had been better, he could have got the winner."
